What is a railway certificate?

A railway certificate is a health certificate that documents that you meet the physical and mental requirements set by the Danish Transport Authority for employees in safety-critical positions within rail and metro.

The purpose of the certificate is to ensure that you as an employee can perform your work safely and without risk to passengers, colleagues or equipment. A railway health certificate is therefore required by law for anyone working with operational and safety tasks, such as train drivers, dispatchers, signal operators, station staff and other technical staff responsible for train operations and safety.

Why is a health certificate required?

A health certificate is required by law for employees who work with safety-critical functions in railway and metro operations – for example, train drivers, traffic controllers or signal managers. The purpose is to ensure that you are medically able to perform your duties without endangering passengers or colleagues.

Who needs a rail certificate or metro certificate?

A railway certificate is required by law for anyone working in safety-critical functions in rail or metro operations. This applies to positions where your health has a direct impact on the safety of passengers and colleagues.

The certificate serves as documentation that you can perform your work tasks safely and reliably.
At Doctors Denmark, we help both new and experienced employees obtain the necessary health certificate for railway personnel so that you meet the requirements of the Danish Transport Authority and can continue your work without interruption.

What does the legislation say?

According to the Danish Transport Authority's guidelines and EU regulations, certain personnel groups must undergo health examinations at regular intervals. The requirements include both an initial examination and ongoing periodic examinations, depending on age and job type.

Initial examinations and ongoing health checks
Upon employment, you must undergo a thorough health examination that ensures you meet all the physical and mental requirements for the position. This is followed by regular examinations - often every 1st, 3rd or 5th year - depending on your age and role.
