Infection/Inflammation blood test

Professionally updated: January 27, 2026

If you feel that something is wrong in your body, the cause may be either an infection or inflammation. Inflammation is a form of response from the body's own immune system that occurs to protect you from harm. Infections, on the other hand, are caused by the entry of pathogens such as viruses or bacteria. These two conditions can be confused, as they often present similar symptoms.

How blood tests help

When you come to us, we will thoroughly assess your symptoms and medical history. The blood test gives us a clear picture of how your immune system is responding and includes, among other things:

  • CRP (C-reactive protein) – typically increases during infection and inflammation
  • White blood cells (leukocytes) – indicate whether the body is fighting an infection
  • Differential count – helps distinguish between bacterial and viral infections

With this information, we can advise you on the safest and most effective treatment so that you can get better quickly.

When should you take the blood test?

We recommend the blood test if you experience:

  • Persistent fever or chills
  • Fatigue, listlessness, or general malaise
  • Pain, swelling, or redness in joints or tissues
  • Suspected infection that may require treatment with antibiotics

Prices and consultation

The price for the blood test is 300 kr. and will be added to the consultation price. A physical consultation of 30 minutes must be booked for this blood test. See our price list here.
