Health certificate in 2 parts

The health certificate consists of two parts: Part 1, which you complete yourself at home with your personal and health information, and Part 2, which the doctor completes during the consultation based on the examinations.

Why is a health certificate required?

Working in the emergency services involves heavy lifting, working in smoke and heat environments, unforeseen night calls, and potentially traumatizing events. Therefore, the authorities require documented health to:

Protect yourself

Undetected heart, lung or metabolic diseases can worsen during deployment.

Secure colleagues

A sudden collapse during smoke diving puts the entire team at risk.

Comply with the law

Training and employment in the emergency services may only be carried out if a valid certificate is available.

How the certificate process works

When you book a 'Health Certificate - Emergency Services' with us, the process typically follows these steps:

Preparation from home

After your booking, you will receive a confirmation with a link to the official form (part 1). Fill it out carefully, especially regarding previous illnesses, medications, and vaccinations, and upload it via our secure portal no later than 24 hours before the consultation.

Health consultation (anamnesis)

The doctor reviews your questionnaire and asks clarifying questions about cardiovascular disease, lung function, musculoskeletal issues, mental resilience, and any previous exposure to smoke/chemicals. The conversation lasts approximately 10-15 minutes and forms the basis for the physical part.

Clinical examination and test

  • Height, weight, BMI, waist measurement, as well as blood pressure and resting heart rate

  • Heart and lung auscultation, incl. spirometry if needed

  • Musculoskeletal system (back, shoulders, hips, knees) to assess lifting and carrying capacity

  • Vision test (visual acuity and color vision) and audiometry to ensure that you can distinguish signals and alarm tones

  • Supplementary ECG and blood or urine tests, if risk factors or age suggest it

Conclusion and preparation

The doctor summarizes the results. If further investigations are required (e.g. X-ray, exercise ECG), you will receive a clear plan of action.

Digital transmission to the emergency services

Once the certificate is completed, it will be securely sent to the authority that requested it. You will also receive a copy.

What is Part 1?

The form serves as the foundation for your entire health certificate. The more accurately you describe your health, the faster the doctor can later assess your suitability for the emergency services.

See the form here.

A correctly completed Part 1 minimizes the risk of needing extra tests or submitting additional documents, saving you both time and money.

Legal basis for the health certificate

The requirement for a health certificate is stipulated in Danish law. Specifically, the emergency services are responsible for ensuring that all operational employees meet § 48 of Law No. 912 of 2 October 2000 (Emergency Services Act) and § 27, para. 1 of Order No. 41 of 21 January 1998.

These provisions authorize the authorities to require a medical assessment of your health before you can be employed or continue in service. The health certificate is therefore a legal requirement to protect you, your colleagues, and the public.
